  1. Balsamand Lake

It is the oldest and most beautiful lake in Jodhpur, Balsamand Lake was built by Balak Rao Parihar in 1159 AD to counter the water scarcity of Mandore. Later, Maharaj Sur Singh built the Balsamand Palace alongside the lake to spend his leisure time near the serene beauty of the lake. There is an outstanding garden as well located near to its edges, which is famous for its scenic beauty. You can easily find peace in the gloom of pomegranate, mango, and guava trees.

  1. Kaylana Lake

Just like the Balsamand, Kaylana lake is also an artificial wonder of Jodhpur. It is located approximately 8 km from the city center. Maharaja Pratap Singh built this beauty in 1872 after the abolishment of two gardens and Palaces of Maharaja Bhim Singh and Maharaja Takhat Singh. Even today, the fulfillment of the water requirements of Jodhpur is partly dependent upon it. A gorgeous site for nature lovers attracts tourists in huge numbers. Boat facility is also available here to paddle through the river.

  1. Sardar Samand Lake 

Considered as one of the best lakes near to Jodhpur, Sardar Samand Lake is located 60 kms away from the town. It is also home to some of the best birds as migratory feather beauties flock here from all over the globe. Black Buck, Chinkara, and Neelgai can easily be spotted here. Due to its scenic view and close natural proximity, photographers from all over the globe came here to capture the best moments of their life. Bird watching is one of the few activities at lake you can do. It is surely a paradise for all nature admirers.

  1. Takhat Sagar Lake  

Counted among the biggest and beautiful lakes of Jodhpur, Takhat Sagar is the best-suited place for all travellers. This lake is named after the former king of Jodhpur Maharaja Takhat Singh of the 19th century. It is famous for its spectacular view and Shri Siddhnath Shiv Temple. The temple is located in the middle of Takhat Sagar hills which was once covered with desert from all sides and is now the most beautiful tourist place to visit.

  1. Ranisar-Padamsar 

These are two identical lakes with similar names but with different stories. It is located on the rear side of Mehrangarh Fort near the Fateh Pole. These two lakes were built to reserve the water to fulfil the water requirements inside the grand fortress. The drinking water has been reserved for centuries in these lakes. The Ranisar lake was made on the order of queen Jasmade Hadi, wife of the founder of Jodhpur Rao Jodha. The Padamsar lake was created by the order of queen Padmini, daughter of Rana Sanga from Mewar. These two lakes are the perfect example of water preservation in ancient times. 

  1. Gulab Sagar 

Situated in the old area of Jodhpur near the Sardar market, Gulab Sagar is the prominent lake in Jodhpur. It was constructed by Gulab Rai, the beloved of Maharaja Vijay Singh, in 1788. Previously there was a Bawri at the place of Gulab Sagar. Measured at 150 x 90m, it takes 8 years to build this lake. Just like the Takhat Sagar lake, it also has a gracious temple of Kunjbihari dedicated to Lord Krishna. Its old beauty can be seen even today. 

  1. Fateh Sagar  

It is one of the ancient ponds in Jodhpur that is still alive. It was created in the year 1778 by Maharaja Vijay Singh. The size of the pond is 140 x 75m and gets its water from the canal linked to Balsamand as well as Kaylana lake from its southern point. There is a renowned Ramanuj Kot temple made in 1866, that belongs to the Ramanuj Cult of Vaishnavas

  1. Shekhawat Ji Ka Talab

Constructed by Shekhawat Antarang, the queen of Jaswant Singh, Shekhawat Ji Ka Talab is another pond in Jodhpur that is famous for its scenic beauty. It is located a few kilometers away from Merti Gate and is around five hundred years old. Maharaja also built a palace near the pond for his stay during the rainy season. This pond is used as the main source of water for the people of the Palace.
